About Me, Get To Know Me, My Life

GTKM: Favourites A-Z

Hi, Hey, Hello!

I read this blog post a few weeks ago and thought that it seemed like a fun little way for you, the reader, to get to know me a little better in a different kind of way. And getting to know me is the point of this fortnight. Some of these were harder to narrow than others (the ones that I really struggled with will become apparent as you keep reading). But this is my list:

A – Animal: Giraffe. I am mildly obsessed. But also puppies, because, well, puppies.

B – Beauty Product: At the moment I am all about this bad boy…

This is almost definitely my new favourite thing. #soapandglory

C – Colour: Black…I used to get told off for saying that because black is just the absence of colour or something like that. So over the years I have changed my actual answer, because, well it’s accurate. Purple.

D – Drink: I drink my fair amount of water throughout the day, but naturally I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite because that accolade can only belong to coffee. In almost all forms.

E – Exercise: I walk pretty much everywhere so that I guess because it is all I do. But at some point this year I plan to take up yoga.

F – Flower: I am so not a flower girl on the whole, so this is hard. But something about a black rose speaks to me.

G – Game: Articulate. Also great when turned into a drinking game.

H – Human: My best friend probably. Or my brother (obviously my parents, but I’m not picking between them so I am eliminating them (that sounds harsh) from the equation)

I – Instrument: I have a soft spot for the violin, or string quartets in general. And also the saxophone holds a special place in my heart because I have a saxophonist for a brother.

J – Job: I have only ever had one job, and that is receptionist. I don’t even have an ideal favourite job anymore.

K – Karaoke Song: Mr Brightside – The Killers. Or in a group, What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction. Never sung in anything that could be remotely called in tune.

L – Lunch: I love a good chicken and bacon sandwich. Or as a veggie option Pret do this Avocado, Cucumber Salad wrap that I love a whole bunch.

M – Movie: Oh why must this be a question? I have so many. My default answer is The Departed because it is great. But Dead Poet’s Society changed the game for me. Brokeback Mountain is also such a great film, for great cinematography and directing level, but  also because the acting is stunning as well, so that’s a recent addition. The Harry Potter series has so many great memories attached to it for me. And more recently I am all about Gone Girl.

N – Number: 17 (black).

O – Object: My iPod maybe…oh wait no, I have two Animal (as in The Muppet) cushions that I love a whole bunch.

P – Picture:

The memories for the most part, because this city stole my heart. And this was such a beautiful day to get to stand against that sky line.

Q – Quote: I have it stuck on my bedroom wall, I have written something inspired it, half of it is this blog’s title. My favourite quote is Winston Churchill ‘if you’re going through hell, keep going’.

R – Restaurant: TGI Friday. Their cocktails are great, food is great. Always have a blast there, usually because I am accompanied by my best friend and everything is fun when we’re together.

S – Season: Let me direct to this post to give you a bit of an idea.

T – Trend: I am all for wearing oversized jumpers, tight jeans and boots. If that counts as a trend than it’s my favourite one.

U – Underwear: Listen, I don’t think I can sing the praises of Boux Avenue enough. The variety is great and affordable and more importantly hella comfortable.

V – Vacation: New York/Orlando last summer. Although Paris in summer 2013 was so great. I want to return to all three.

W – Writer: Do you know you’re talking to a former dedicated student of English literature. I fell in love with a new writer most weeks. The Bell Jar resonated with me. A Visit From The Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan is one of the best books I have ever read. Once you get into the metafiction aspect of it all Brief Interviews, David Foster Wallace is a work of art that is hard to get through, but so damn worth it in the end. Angela Carter reinventing what you think about fairytales is a total winner. The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne challenging expectations and views and creating Hester Prynne. Neil Gaiman, Donna Tartt, Yann Martel, Rainbow Rowell, Gillian Flynn, JK Rowling (who lets be real has a lot to answer for when it comes to me, I will literally always bring things back to Harry). Jacqueline Wilson and Roald Dahl for starting this whole delicious mess off. The list goes on and on so I should really stop…but yeah I have a lot. The limit doesn’t exist when it comes to my favourite authors.

X – X-tra favourite: I lovva da cake. And salted caramel Haagen Daaz ice cream. That ice cream is my Queen.

Y – Year: Not the whole year because I can’t remember the last year that was mostly good tbh, but Summer 2012 was my shit.

Z – Zodiac sign: I pay next to no attention to this stuff, so can I just have my own. Aquarius.

And there it is, my 26 (more than that, sorry) favourite things organised by the alphabet.

Parentheses count: 7. See you on Wednesday!
