Shazam Rewind

Hi, Hey, Hello!

I am back on the music thing already today because let’s be honest it’s a huge, huge, huge part of my life. Slightly different take on it today though because it all based around the songs that I heard, didn’t know and then Shamzam-ed. And then in most cases promptly forgot about.

Until the other day when out of pure curiosity I took a look back at all the songs that have passed through the app. Therefore that’s what this is, the last 15 songs that I Shazam-ed.

1) Put The Gun Down – ZZ Ward

I don’t even remotely remember where I heard this. Let’s assume it was in a film though, because that’s where most of my urges to Shazam come from (looking quickly at the comments I think it might be We’re The Millers, which would make sense because I watched that again the other day).

2) La Da Dee – Cody Simpson

I do remember this one though because it was at the end of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (and even if I forgot that the video would help me remind me of that). If I believed in guilty pleasures then this would maybe classify as one. I dunno, I’ve heard it twice, but it is slowly growing on me.

3) Don’t Fight – Donnie and Joe Emerson

Can I just say that The Skeleton Twins might be one of my new favourite films, that’s where I heard this. The whole soundtrack is a little bit of me.

4) Fire – PVRIS

Every time I hear the beginning of this song I think for a second that it’s Hayley Williams singing even though I know it isn’t. I’m hearing this song a lot now so I definitely know it’s PVRIS and I am loving it, but I checked what it was at least twice according to the history on this app before that was drilled into my head.

5) Up In The Air – Thirty Seconds to Mars

I walked into the room mid song and instead of just waiting to have it confirmed to me that it was in fact Jared Leto’s voice that I was listening to I just stuck my phone in the air and watched it flash at me that I was right.

6) I’m Shipping Up to Boston – Dropkick Murphys

I guess it’s also worth mentioning that The Departed is actually probably my favourite film ever (maybe…I dunno…that’s a hard question to answer, it’s Top 3 definitely). I put it on near the beginning for the first time in a while, I needed a name for the music. I got one. It’s this.

7) Demimonde – Abel Korzeniowski

I binge watched Penny Dreadful in about a week on a whim and so I heard this song a LOT. I just wanted a name for it. And I also love a good musical store, which this show has in abundance.

8) I’ll Keep You Safe – Sleeping at Last

I am unaware as to why bank adverts right now are trying to make you feel a whole bunch of feelings, but they are. This is in one of them and goodness is it a good song.

9) Oh My Love- The Score

Okay so the first time I heard this I was like ‘really Asda?’. Then I kept hearing in almost EVERY single adbreak I sat through and it slowly started growing on me, and before I knew it i was having a mini dance party every time I heard it. And still am.

10) Undone – The Bird and The Bee

Again I had to rely on the comments section of the video to tell me where the hell I heard this song. I watched Sex Tape recently so that seems to make sense. Also I like that band name, it amuses me slightly.

11) Flynn Lives – Daft Punk

Apparently this is from Tron Legacy which is definitely not where I heard it because I’ve never seen that film so I honestly don’t have a clue how this happened. But it’s Daft Punk and I don’t think hearing them can ever really be a bad thing.

12) Wild Heart – The Vamps

I feel like I am living on the assumption that I heard this briefly in something, because I only listen to the same three The Vamps songs and finding the video on YouTube turned out to be the only time I have heard it from start to finish.

13) Gone, Gone, Gone – Phillip Phillips

Again from a film. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to be specific. I am pretty sure I Shazam this song every time I watch this film because I never remember it and I really like it. It shows up in the history a lot as well which also tells you how much I end up just throwing that film on.

14) Freedom – Pharrell Williams

Yet another advert song. I knew it was Pharrell when I heard it but again I craved a name.

15) Wicked Game – Parra for Cuva ft Anna Naklab

Who knows where I heard this because to my knowledge I have only heard the Chris Isaak version, which is up there as one of my fave songs anyway. I mean it was probably the radio tbh.

Bonus – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – Sleeping at Last

Okay so I know I said 15, but I really like this. It was over a montage, probably one to do with Andy Murray getting knocked out of Wimbledon because…Scottish, I don’t quite remember exactly. But what I do know is that I am mildly obsessed with cover versions of this song for reasons that I really don’t know, especially when it is slowed right down like this one is.

And now I’m done.

Parentheses count: 4. See you on Wednesday!
