Hi, Hey, Hello!
Okay, okay I am succumbing. I have quite freely said the word now, I am eating all the food and drinking all the drinks, I may have even bought a couple of new seasonal jumpers. I helped put the office Christmas tree up last week (had to buy it and everything), the are decorations on people’s desks in the office and sometimes there is Christmas music tinkling around the office (let’s not go into the fact that I hear several on the radio daily and that number is always increasing), so I am succumbing.
I’m gonna start talking freely about Christmas and stop pretending that it is some distant thing that is happening eons away from now, because it is officially less than 20 days away. And the way this year has passed means that less than 20 days is nothing.
On that note, waaayyyyyy back to Tuesday of last week I saw this post over on Adele’s wonderful little blog in which she left an open invitation to do The Christmas Tag, so although the festive spruce up (that tbh I am still not 100% sure on, but hey ho) happened when the month rung in (or maybe a taaaaddddd earlier) this is the official opening of Christmas on Keep Going (we’re gonna find out exactly what that entails together…) and I’m gonna give it a go.
1) What is Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
I’m gonna be honest I don’t really know…I mean Jim Carrey’s Grinch is pretty much me on a lot of levels. No lie. But then my staple, must watch every year (although I have slacked on one of these the past couple of years, but I am gonna rectify the situation imminently) films are Love, Actually and The Holiday.
2) Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
I am gonna be honest, it never (I don’t think it did anyway) occurred to me to ever open a present on Christmas Eve. Mainly because I never knew where they were in the house. And I was never one to go looking for them because it is kind of impossible to sneak off and go searching for things in my house. So I always used to come downstairs on Christmas morning and my (and my brother’s) presents were just there waiting. And I dunno, that method has just stuck with me as I’ve gotten older (she says making it sound like she is not just in her early twenties…and is now talking in the third person)
3) Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Any time my brother and I actually win 2 out of 3 in whatever board game we play against our parents…
Other than that I ended up taking my dog for a walk with my dad a couple of years ago, equipped with a Santa hat on and it was just incredibly calming, which at the time is exactly what I needed (and to be honest probably need again right now). I mean I have loads and I could go on, but that is what I am going with at this point in time.
4) What is your favourite festive food?
You know what I really love about Christmas? The fact that I can go in on Ferrero Rocher on Christmas morning before breakfast with minimal outward judgement, because that is the only time I eat them (and hey, one always makes it to the new year, I have some self control, not a lot, but some).
Other than that it comes with it being totally acceptable to wrap sausages in bacon and consume them en masse. And then continue eating. And eating. Plus brandy butter, my relationship with that stuff borders on disgusting when I remember that although it has brandy in it it is still fucking butter.
5) Over the years, what has been your favourite Christmas present?
I present you with this little bad boy, which started quite the collection of onesies over the past year. That’s how I spend my Sundays these days now, in a onesie with a face mask on and writing or reading. It’s kind of blissful.
6) What is your favourite Christmas scent?
Peppermint. Which might not be specifically related to Christmas, but there is something about it that reminds me of Christmas. So that. I bloody love it, plus peppermint mochas make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
7) Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
No, I do not. Not anymore anyway, I mean there was the usual leaving food out for Santa, but now? Not so much.
8) What is at the top of your Christmas tree?
Mr Christmas. That is not a joke, there is a Mr Man character called that. He’s big and green and he is tied rather precariously to the top of our tree every year and has been since we retired Homer Simpson climbing out of chimney because it was no longer sufficiently festive many, many moons ago.
9) Do you like to stay in your PJ’s or dress up on Christmas day?
My brother and I fall on very opposite ends of the spectrum. Given that typically we each get pjs for Christmas he is very much the kind of person to have a shower and get into them. Me on the other hand dresses the hell up because why not? And then at the end of the day when I have removed my make up and thrown my outfit back into my wardrobe I have a nice new snuggly set of PJ’s to crawl into bed with.
10) Do you prefer candy canes of gingerbread men?
Honestly, neither. I love the way candy canes look, they are hella pretty and all that jazz and I love a well constructed gingerbread house. But eating them? Neither, not a fan of them. However I am more inclined to candy canes because they come with a peppermint flavour than gingerbread which sometimes can be a bit much.
And there we have it. My Christmas Tag is complete. Similarly to Adele I leave this as an open invitation to anyone who wants to take do it as we progress further into festive season.
Parentheses count: 11. See you tomorrow!
