I Am From

Hi, Hey, Hello!

I’m shaking off the cobwebs slightly at the moment, even though over the course of Sunday-Tuesday I did write over 4,000 words for various things, so I’m coming at you with this today, although this requires very little imagination of my part as the prompt has done most of the work for me: Use the I Am From template to tell us more about yourself.

So let’s have some fun with this.

Adapted by Levi Romero Inspired by “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon

I am from the sofa, from the desk chair and the slightly broken toaster. I am from the Victoria beams and the slightly off white walls, the mirror that always remains a touch festive. I am from the orchid. The oak tree whose long gone limbs I remember as if they were my own. I’m from New Year’s Day fry ups and too long legs from Mum and Dad. I’m from always rushing to get anyway for no real reason and weekends where football seems to be the only thing on the TV and from piling coats up too high on the stairs bannister. I’m from books and insect tears on grass on crisp winter mornings. I’m from warm croissants with cream cheese and smoked salmon on Christmas morning. I’m from London and Grenada and perfectly roasted chicken on a Sunday night. From that scar that I am responsible for on my brother’s skull from poor communication and a game gone wrong where I will never doubt just hard a head my brother has, from the collage of pictures that somehow made its way onto the wall one day that just goes to prove that even though we are three years apart there are many aspects of my brother and I that are basically the same, from all the pictures that I have collected in scrap books and on folders in my phone and placed in pride of place on the back of my bedroom door. From the memories that I pull on when everything seems to be overwhelming and i just need to take a breather and remember a time when there was calm. From perfect sunsets and late night talks and accidental viewings of the sun rising again. From early morning pizza and chips and then repeating that later in the day when decisions aren’t necessarily any better but all the carbs are needed. From dog walks through parks into woods and splattered mud on anything you dare to wear for that trip. From weekend lie ins and spur of the moment plans. I am from all of these things and so much more.
