April Playlist

April Playlist

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Looking back at April in a music context I came to the realisation that I have spent the majority of the month falling back in love with Fall Out Boy’s back catalogue. But there are pockets where I found songs and listened to them on repeat at 11 o’clock at night meaning that they rang around in my head while I was trying to sleep and followed me through to the next morning for reasons that were both easy to explain and yet also seemed inexplicable at the time. Anyway, on with the listing.

1) Gibberish – MAX

This showed up on my Twitter timeline and my YouTube homepage multiple times and then I finally clicked on it and I was glad I did.  Something about it just puts me in a god mood (and also bass line). (Also while I was trawling YouTube for all the links for this I found this Sweet Suspense cover of this song and I kinda also quite like it)

2) All About You – Hilary Duff

This is such a happy summer tune to me. I have a little soft spot for Hilary Duff anyway and this song is just a little bit of me.

3) Talking Body – Tove Lo

This is one of those songs that I had stuck in my head for daaayyyssss because I listened to it on repeat in the early hours of the morning and then slept on it, and then heard it on the radio just to really cement it’s residency in my brain. Not mad about it though, it’s a really great song and I have kind of not stopped listening to it since.

4) Freakum Dress – Beyonce

I think it is a Snopp Dogg song that mentions a freakum dress and I have been hearing that song a fair bit while I just stick the radio on a go about my getting ready process. But anyway hearing that lyric has reminded me of the Beyonce song, so obviously I listened to it a little bit incessantly. (I also used to listen to this song sooooo much while I was getting ready for nights out at uni, it’s a very good song for that)

5) The Kids Aren’t Alright – Fall Out Boy

This song is my jam. It’s my everything. I am obsessed. It crept up on me and took a hold of my entire being and it won’t let go. And I’m not that mad about it at all. Long may it continue.

6) Best Fake Smile – James Bay

This is, again, the first song I go back to when I listen to this album (which is often in amongst all the Fall Out Boy this month). I just really, really, really like it. (And also feel like it’s hella accurate)

7) Not My Day – Keith James

I was making my semi-regular trip to Kurt Hugo Schneider’s YouTube channel and this was one of the most recent videos up there so I gave it a listen. And boy am I glad that I did. Keith James’ voice is just incredible and so soothing to listen to and this is such a nice song, especially when I was listening to it yesterday on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

8) Ugly Heart – G.R.L

I love a good girlband song. That is literally all I have to say about it. It’s good. I turn it up and badly sing along. And also I have known people like this (but then again hasn’t everybody at some point?)

9) Middle of a Moment – James and the Giant Peach cast recording/Skylar Astin

I have mentioned my Pasek and Paul love affair before and then this little gem of an cast recording came out this past week and I was reminded why. This song in particular is my stand out and then I heard Skylar Astin’s (and Darren Criss’) version and I loved it even more. I love a good musical.

10) 7 Minutes in Heaven – Fall Out Boy

Obviously this is how this playlist was gonna close out this month because how can I talk about how I have been going down a wonderful trip along memory lane and only include one, recent, Fall Out Boy song? It was honestly hard to only pick one other song because I love so many of them. I don’t even really know why I chose this song over the others but at the moment that I was compiling this it seemed like the right choice (might have something to do with the guitar).

And there we have it.

Parentheses count: 8. See you on Wednesday!

So I read all of your post and then lined up the songs to accompany some further blog reading tonight. I love music, there isn’t a day that goes by without it for me, so I also really love recommendations. Thanks for providing the soundtrack to my Thursday night, you have great taste, I was going to highlight my favs but it actually too difficult! James Bay has definitely been frequently played on my iTunes the past month too though.
