Hi, Hey, Hello!
You know I low key forgot that the second volume of this was due out this yer. I mean I pre-ordered it, but as is the way with most of the things I pre-order, I did that and then promptly forgot all about it. So colour me surprised when I got that dispatch email (I really need to keep better track of this shit).
This volume was also really handily very short, which is just what I needed as my reading challenge started to come to a close. It took a couple of hours to get read. Thank you very much.
And it was an enjoyable read. It did however fully remind me that I just dropped myself into this universe and I kind of have no idea what came before. I mean I could take an educated guess, but for the part I know nothing (Jon Snow).
Like I’m still not sure why Gert is the way she is, or who the robot head used to be , or how Alex actually died. The good thing is that you don’t have to be fully on top of it to understand this current narrative, which I appreciate massively. However, I also don’t like being in the dark, so we’ll see where that goes…
I also appreciated aspects of this volume’s storyline, especially the cliffhanger ending, which in hindsight I should have seen coming because seriously, it turns out it was kind of obviously going to go down that way. The overall characterisation for the most of the characters felt good, maybe with the exception of Chase, who somehow always seemed like an afterthought, if he hadn’t been drawn in then I honestly would have forgotten about him.
Moving onto the illustrations though they are incredible. So intricate and stunning and they elevated the whole thing so much. I’m obsessed with the details of them and how vibrant they are. They really bring everything to life.
Overall this was a great second volume to a story that I was already quite enjoying. I’m intrigued as to where it will go next and how that thing that happened in the end will impact future storylines. Knowing me, I’ve probably already pre-ordered Volume 3 and just forgotten about it…
