The Unique Blogger Award

Hi, Hey, Hello!

We are out of the Red Queen saga briefly while I finish up King’s Cage and then there will be another wait before War Storm because you can’t review a book you haven’t read yet. So that will come in a few weeks (why that will be the case will be made apparent soon) and you can probably expect another batch of them when the time comes.

In the meantime however, I was nominated by the lovely Jess for this award.

The Rules:

  • Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you
  • Answer the questions
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award
  • Ask them 3 questions

Jess’ questions were the following:

Starting with a hard one, what is your favourite book?

Ummmm, this is a hard one. I have so many. I am really bad with this question. I think it’s The Secret History. But then it might also be Neverwhere. There are a lot to be honest. I have read a lot of great books. My favourite from this year so far has been They Both Die in the End.

Do you listen to music whilst reading. If you do, what do you listen to?

I do for the most part. These days I tend to only read on my way to and from work on the train. I cannot do that journey in silence, it would drive me insane. As to what I listen to, it varies. Currently I am on a huge musicals thing and am going through a cycle of Mean Girls, Heathers and Bandstand.

Where is your favourite place to read?

I don’t actually have a favourite place to read to be honest with you. I currently do most of my reading on trains, does that count? That’s kind of all I’ve got to be honest.

And that the question section of this here award done.

Onto my questions:

1) Can you not finish a book?

2) What’s your favourite book series?

3) What is one book that you could re-read multiple times and never get bored of?

And I tag:

1) A Very Bookish Girl

2) Samantha the Reader

3) Quirky Lady Bookworm

4) The Infinite Bookcase

5) LF Books

6) The Wanderlust Reader

7) A Book. A Thought

8) Continue Reading Here

And there we have it!

Blogger Recognition Award

Blogger Recognition Award

Hi, Hey, Hello!

Just over a week ago I was nominated by Tabby for this award which was a small perk at the end of yet another draining week, so thanks for that!

– Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
– Write a post to show your award.
– Give a brief story of how your blog started.
– Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
– Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
– Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them & provide the link to the post you created.
How I Started
This blog came into fruition because I joined a society at uni and it was part of the project for that year. Posting was sporadic on it and I didn’t really know what the hell I was going to use it for. Arguably, I still don’t, but I started to use this blog more frequently when I was unemployed for like a year and needed something to fill my days. And then I took it even more seriously when I got a job and didn’t want that to be the only thing that consumed my days and so  I needed the outlet. And here we are now.
My Advice
1) Do it for you – Blog about what you want to talk about. Don’t worry about who is reading it and how many people are reading it. Don’t get caught up in the numbers of it all because then it’s very easy to lose track of why you started in the first place. So, do it for you.
2) Pace yourself – By that I just mean, know your limits. And then stick to them. Challenging yourself is great, but don’t do it at the cost of something else. I speak from experience, it’s very easy to get caught up in things and then to feel some weird sense of guilt if you don’t stick to the schedule that you created for yourself. Here’s the thing, for the most part you make your blog whatever you want it to be (and this links to the first one) and if sometimes that means you don’t post for a little bit because you need a break then do it. In the long run, it’s probably going to work out better for you. It will give you a chance to create new content and think about what direction you want to go to. It will take you out of the eye of the storm that is your blog and give you some perspective. So yeah, listen to your heart in that respect and do what works best for you.
And so my nominees are (I’m apparently not going to do 15, so as ever, if you want to do it then go ahead):

Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award

Hi, Hey, Hello!

It’s the middle of the week. And even better for me, I only have one day left of work for the week and then looonnngggg weekend. I don’t know about you but I for sure need a chance to just sort of disconnect and not be at work for a bit so I can try and reset and rest properly (especially considering that tomorrow night I am also doing an exercise class that might break me…) (and also, having said that I have a room that I can finally redecorate, so that might occupy some of my time and impact on the whole ‘resting’ thing).

Anyway, the other day Sarra over on That Geeky Girlfriend nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award and here I am fulfilling that nomination and thanks Sarra for the nomination.

Versatile Blogger Award
Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award Rules:

  1. Display Award
  2. Thank the person who nominated you
  3. Share seven facts about yourself
  4. Nominate up to 10 other bloggers

So, 7 facts about me. This is actually kind of hard because I feel like I spew so much random shit on here that I’m running out of ‘fun’ secret facts about moi. But here we go anyway

  1. I’m surprisingly stronger than I look. I can lift things. Fairly heavy things. It blows the people who offered to help me because it’s ‘too heavy’ minds every single time. Tbh I kinda love that
  2. Give me the right book and a spell of a few free hours and I can pretty much blitz through it like its a short story. Again that blows some people’s minds
  3. No plans are my favourite kind of plans
  4. If I could I would live off pizza quite happily
  5. This so won’t sound like a big thing to some people but I can now cycle (on a stationary bike mind you) 10k in 25 mins and only feel mildly ill afterwards (if I haven’t been to the gym the day before though I actually feel kinda good…I heard rumours exercise  could do that but I thought that was a myth. Like dragons.)
  6. Up until recently (I mainly mean this past year) I only owned one pair of black jeans. I spend 90% of my life wearing all black. That one pair of jeans got a lot of wear out of them (they then got ruined in the wash and the number has gone up to 4)
  7. Speaking of black, I broke my lipstick buying ban on Monday night and bought a black lipstick that I cannot wait to get soon (I also bought a vamplify in acting on impulse, which I also can’t wait for)

And that’s 7 more random facts about me. I am seriously running out them now. I need to get more interesting maybe…

I in turn nominate:

Karen @ Confetti and Curves

Tabby @ Orange Owl Dairies

Joanna @ Pores For Thought

Molly @ The Rose Beauty Files

Liam @ Liam’s Library

Should you choose to accept, I look forward to reading your posts!

Parentheses count: 7. See you on Sunday!

Liebster Award

Liebster Award 3

Hi, Hey, Hello!

So all the way back on Good Friday I was lucky enough to be nominated for another Liebster Award by Sly over on 99 Sly Thoughts. Now I have already done the whole thing before all the way back in February last year so I am going down the route that went down in December and just answer the questions given to me by Sly (also with a different logo, which is exciting…) and strongly recommend that you go and check out his blog.

Liebster Award
Liebster Award

1) Is there a point to decaf coffee?

Listen, you are talking to a girl who works at a coffee company, surrounded by people who are all similar levels of fussy about their coffee. Decaf coffee isn’t even a thing that crosses my mind. I would just rather not drink coffee then drink decaf.

2) Do you know anyone with the same middle name as you?

I do not have a middle name, so no.

3) What kind of computer are you on?

Macbook Air

4) Do you have any tattoos?  If not, do you want one?

I do not currently have any. But I want to get one, just a case of not being so indecisive.

5) Name a candy you cannot resist.

M&Ms. Especially peanut ones. But I mean pretty much any form of M&M. I got super into the dark chocolate ones when I was in New York a couple of years ago (and then again last year when my parents bought me some back from their trip).

6) Top 5 most played songs in your music library.

Here’s a fun fact. My iTunes is a liar, because neither the iTunes on my laptop or on my phone are actually accurate…So the last time I checked (before Christmas and a laptop change) the most played song on my iTunes was Where do Broken Hearts Go – One Direction. What the other 4 were I do not remember.

7) How introverted or extroverted are you?

I most definitely fall on the introverted side of things.

8) Dream vacation destination?

As we speak, Hawaii (actually that is more of an always kind of destination).

9) What languages can you speak?

Unfortunately I can only speak English and I have the most basic understanding of Spanish, which I kind of wish I hadn’t fallen so out of love with during my AS Levels.

10) Do you have a favourite video game?

I’m guessing Candy Crush doesn’t count? I’m not a big gamer, so that is about as hardcore as it gets for me.

11) Which historical figure would you like to meet and why?

Either Churchill, because I wrote this just after watching The Imitation Game and for some reason I’ve Churchill on the brain as a consequence (although Turing would also be fascinating to meet) or Shakespeare, because, well…Shakespeare innit.

And that’s that done. Parentheses count: 5. See you tomorrow!

Liebster Award

Liebster Award 2

Hi, Hey, Hello!

So around the middle of last month I was nominated for this lovely award by JillyPopMusic. Now I have already done one of these at the beginning (ish) of the year over here, which means that this time around I am just going to answer the wonderful questions that Jilly has asked.

1. What got you started with your blog?

I started it because I joined Creative Writing Society during my second year of a uni and it kind of came as a part of that. I keep it up because it gives me something to channel my creativity in to and it helps keep me in the habit of writing. Plus I love it.

2. Please link to your favorite post you have written and why is it your favorite?

I love so many of my posts. Mainly because it takes a huge amount for me to actual push the ‘publish’ (although to be honest it’s more ‘schedule’, because my organistion has been off the charts recently) button and not chicken out way before hand. Plus some of my creative pieces I have sat with for ages and putting them out there is scary because words are annoyingly (and greatly) subjective and while I love them everybody else might hate them.

But if I had to pick one then I think it might be Just a Little Bit of Your Heart I don’t quite know why, but when I was looking back at all of my posts I remember this one was weirdly calming to write and happened really quickly one afternoon while I was cradling a coffee (which is where you can usually find me writing let’s be honest). Plus the song it was inspired by was beautiful.

3. What is your favorite color?

Anybody who knows me will know that my favourite colour is eventually revealed as purple. Although you would be forgiven for thinking that it’s black. Sometimes even I think it’s black and then I see something in purple and I have to it (at one point my phone case, iPod case and my laptop were all purple…in fact 2 out 3 still are…)

4. If a movie were to be played about your life, who would play you?

Ya know I have had a similar conversation with my parents many times over the past couple of years and I have never been able to cast myself. Ever. But as I am being asked I have come with an answer (that is so subject to change) and I would pick Antonia Thomas (bonus, we also have the same surname).

5. Where would you like to travel that you haven’t travelled to yet?

Hawaii. Without a shadow of a doubt it is Hawaii. In fact multiple times last month I found myself searching flights for the trip. And I may have planned a layover in LA. It was a two week fantasy holiday. You can tell that it was a dreary November where I was dreaming of sunnier climes can’t you?

6. What was your favourite book or movie as a child?

Double Act Jacqueline Wilson. I had the reading of that down to a few hours I read it that much. As for favourite film? I watched Pocahontas  A LOT. I don’t necessarily remember that but my parents will to you that it happened.

7. What is your favorite season and why?

I spent a whole month writing letters dedicated to it…Letters to Autumn
8. What is your astrological sign and do you feel it describes your personality?

I am an Aquarius. But I pay no attention to my zodiac sign, on the odd occasion that I read my horoscope I find that it is in no way accurate to me at all.

9. Do you have a bucket list? What is number 1?

I don’t have one as such. But my current number 1 thing is in the answer to question 5. Seriously, Hawaii. Take me there now please.

10. If you like to exercise what’s your favourite type of exercise?

I don’t like exercise. But I walk almost everywhere that I can. And I take the stairs a lot (more than I used to anyway, that comes with not trusting the lift up to your office). That is pretty much it. Walking is calming and a great way to clear my head, plus it’s a great time to listen to music and we all know how much I love that.

11. What’s your dream job?

I dare not say it out loud. It’s very He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named to be honest. But I want to be surrounded by words always.

And that’s it, Jilly’s questions have been answered. You should check out her delightful corner of the internet and I shall see you tomorrow for yet another Monday! Parentheses count: 8.

The Sunshine Blogger Award

The Sunshine Blogger Award Challenge

Hi, Hey, Hello!

The lovely Thistles and Whistles nominated me for this lovely award a couple of weeks ago so thanks very much for that!

The Rules:

–  Thank the person/people who nominated you. (See above)

–  Answer the eleven questions from your nominator(s).

–  Nominate eleven other bloggers and give them eleven questions to answer.

So Thistles’ questions are as follows:

  1. If you could learn one important skill in the next year, what would it be?

I want to learn another language. I feel given that somewhere in the back of my mind I must remember more Spanish than I think it would probably be that at the moment because I something akin to a base for that in terms of knowledge.

2. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Oh gosh wow okay. Right; patient, reliable and quiet.

3. If you had to give up one thing, what would it be? It can be a trait, a habit, a food item or anything!

I would give up Facebook. In fact I am real close to doing that already.

4. What’s the number 1 thing on your wishlist right now?

To be honest at this point in time I want a new laptop.

5. What has recently inspired you?

Honestly, not a lot has inspired me recently except maybe a Fall Out Boy song which wouldn’t leave me alone.

6. The three things you always carry around with you in your purse/wallet?

I’m taking this to mean my bag, in which case an umbrella (I live in London pretty much and despite it being the end of August that thing has taken a beating and if I was without this then I would get a drenching…daily), keys (for both my house and the office) and my actual purse. (Those are the top 3 but almost everything in my bag stays in my bag all the time, the book just switches out)

7. Your favorite corner/room at home?

I exist in one place in my house for longer than 7 hours and that is the corner seat of the sofa in my living room. The other 7 hours are spent sleeping.

8. The last thing you ate?

This won’t be the actual last thing I ate but as I am writing this on Sunday night the last thing I ate was a bag of peanut M&Ms.

9. Any one everyday tip/life hack that you swear by?

Letting my naturally curly hair dry naturally to keep the curl pattern in and minimise frizzing. (A diffuser also does the same job but tbh my hair is too thick and too long to do that EVERY DAY in the morning when I cut it fine enough getting ready for work in the morning already. Seriously that hair drying process alone would take a good 20 minutes). And also Aussie hair and shower (that one is more recent) products, which isn’t a hack or anything I guess but I swear by them.

10. Favourite go-to snack.

Purely because they are on the brain, peanut M&Ms, but I also love sweet and salty popcorn is a real good afternoon pick me up.

11. What are you currently watching/following on TV?

Yeah, turns out I am not done talking about it yet. Parks and Rec. And also Hell’s Kitchen, My Kitchen Rules Australia and Great British Bake Off are largely the only things I am watching on my TV.

So that’s it, questions answered.

My questions are as follows:

  1. Favourite book?
  2. Favourite quote?
  3. Where do you want to travel to?
  4. Favourite dessert? (That question is brought to you by me listening to something about Bake Off while I’m writing this)
  5. Last film you watched.
  6. A book on your to read list.
  7. Favourite actress/actor?
  8. Spirit Animal
  9. All time favourite TV show?
  10. 5 people (dead or alive) that you would invite to a dinner party?
  11. Favourite board game

(These questions are so very random I know)

And my lovely nominees are:

  1. Karen – Confetti and Curves
  2. Adele – The Girl in Glasses
  3. Katie – Into the Bookcase
  4. Jonathan and Aaron – Husband and Husband
  5. Mariella – Jumbleskine
  6. Tabitha – Orange Owl Diaries
  7. Gen – Eat, Pray, Clove
  8. Cat – My Lip Addiction
  9. Joanna – Pores For Thought
  10. Molly Rose – Rose Beauty Files
  11. Bronagh – Bronagh’s Beauty and Books

You should definitely check out these lovely blogs as well.

That’s all from me today.

The Blog Tour Award

The Blog Tour Award

Hi, Hey, Hello!

This is my second post of the day for good reason. Last week I was nominated by the lovely Adele over on The Girl in Glasses to take part in the Blog Tour Award, check out her blog if you haven’t already because it’s truly delightful!

The award rules:

  1. Pass the tour on to at least four other bloggers.
  2. Give your nominees the rules and specify the Monday in which they should post their nomination answers.
  3. Answer the four questions about your creative processes, which allows other bloggers and visitors to understand what inspires you to do what you do.
  4. Compose this one-time post on a specific Monday (date TBC by your nominator).

My answers:

1. How does your work differ from others in your genre?

I write what interests me and hope that it appeals to others. That’s the beauty of blogging and writing, everyone offers their own perspective, attitudes, thoughts and words on things.

2. How does your writing/creative process work?

Pure chance in a lot of cases to be honest. Sometimes I will hear a song lyric that will not leave me alone until I write something related to it. Sometimes a sentence forms in my head for a scenario that I could totally flesh out with the right characters and I run with it. Sometimes I sit in front of my keyboard and just type and see where that takes me.

For my music playlists it’s a case of making note of some songs that I might include in it when I hear them, so Shazam comes in handy a lot of the time for that. With that I also have to check over old playlists to make sure that I don’t include the same one twice because some songs are semi permanent features in my life, but I don’t want repeats on a monthly basis.

Generally speaking there is always some kind of soundtrack to my writing as well, what that is depends on the day, my current faves are Fleetwood Mac and Hozier.

3. Why do you write or create what you do?

I do what I do because I love it first and foremost. I love words and could talk about why for ages. I have never really been math or science based but words have always been my thing. For a piece of English coursework back in Year 10 we had to do a mock article and I had so much fun that I knew then that I wanted to work with words in some way. That’s what cemented it for me in terms of wanting to write myself, but I have always loved reading and that just grew the more I read and the more I studied English in school. And then at uni I hit this creative streak that made me love it even more and I haven’t stopped with that yet.

I write what I feel passionate about and what I feel represents me in some way. And I love it. There would be no point if I didn’t.

4. What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I am working on not being unemployed almost all the time, so job applications. I am also in the second week of Blog Every Day in June on here so I am editing and possibly working on new pieces for that. Generally speaking I am STILL editing my 2014 NaNo novel and then also working on an idea that is banging around in my head for another novel idea that needs something done with it.

My nominees:

1) Karen at Confetti and Curves

2) Gen at Eat, Pray, Clove

3) Mariella at Jumbleskine

4) Thistles and Whistles

If you want to take part in this award then your Monday is June 15th.

Parentheses count: 0/1 if you count the one in the rules. See you tomorrow!
